Huntersville has been one of the fastest-growing towns in North Carolina for two decades, and most of what we build here sits on a lot that was graded and filled fairly recently. That matters more than people expect. A newer subdivision lot is rarely undisturbed ground: it has been cut, filled and compacted by a machine working to a builder's schedule, and the topsoil that came back over it is often thin.
We work across the whole town, from the established streets near downtown out to the newer neighbourhoods around Birkdale Village, Skybrook, Northstone and Vermillion. The common thread is that the yard usually needs a little engineering before it needs decoration.

Fill that has not finished settling. On a lot graded within the last ten years, we dig test holes before we price a patio. If we find soft fill, the base gets deeper and better compacted rather than hoping for the best — a patio that settles two years in costs far more to fix than it did to over-build.
Side yards that funnel water. Huntersville subdivisions tend to place houses close together, and the strip between them becomes the drainage path for two roofs. We route downspouts and set catch basins before laying any surface, because a beautiful patio downhill of an unmanaged side yard is a patio that stays wet.
Clay under everything. Piedmont red clay swells when it is wet and shrinks when it dries. It is not a defect, it is just what we build on, and it is the reason our base depths run deeper than a spec sheet minimum.
